The Service

Elephant's Cookbook is a recipe management application that allows you to capture recipes from photographs or images and save them in a structured, readable format for your personal use. We use AI-assisted technology to extract recipe information from images you provide.

How image processing works

You upload an image containing a recipe — for example, a photo of a cookbook page, a handwritten card, or a screenshot.
Our systems process that image solely to extract the recipe content: ingredients, method, and other relevant details.
We do not retain your uploaded images after the extraction process is complete. The image is discarded once the recipe data has been generated.
You may optionally upload a separate illustrative image to display alongside your saved recipe (e.g. a photo of the finished dish). This image is stored as part of your recipe record and can be deleted by you at any time.

Your Account

To use the Service you must create an account. You agree to:

Provide accurate and complete information when registering.
Keep your login credentials secure and not share them with others.
Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
Be responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you confirm that you have your parent or guardian's permission to use the Service.

Credits

How credits work

Certain features of the Service — including AI-assisted recipe extraction — require credits. Credits are a prepaid digital token that you purchase in advance and spend when you use eligible features.

Purchasing credits

Credits are purchased through our payment provider. All prices are displayed inclusive of VAT where applicable.
Payment is taken immediately at the point of purchase.
Credits are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.

Expiry

Credits do not expire while your account remains active. If your account is closed or terminated, any remaining credits will be forfeited and are non-refundable, except where required by law.

Refunds

Because credits are a digital product that is consumed on use, we do not offer refunds on credits once they have been spent. Unspent credits may be refunded within 14 days of purchase, provided you have not used any credits from that purchase. To request a refund, contact us at [email protected].

This does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable UK consumer protection law.

Your Content

Ownership

You retain full ownership of any content you upload to the Service, including recipe images and any personal notes or modifications you make to extracted recipes ("Your Content").

Licence to us

By uploading content, you grant [Your Company Name Ltd] a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to process, store, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. We do not use Your Content to train AI models, and we do not share it with third parties except as set out in our Privacy Policy.

Your responsibilities

You are solely responsible for the content you upload. You confirm that:

You have the right to upload and use any image you submit to the Service.
Your use of the Service does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights, including copyright in recipes, photographs, or written works.
You will not upload content that is unlawful, harmful, or otherwise objectionable.

Please note: while individual recipes are generally not protected by copyright, the specific written expression of a recipe — particularly from published cookbooks or websites — may be. You are responsible for ensuring your uploads comply with applicable copyright law.

Removing your content

You can delete individual recipes and associated images at any time from within the app. On account deletion, all Your Content is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

Upload content you do not have the right to use.
Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the Service.
Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access or extract data from the Service.
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure.
Resell or commercially exploit the Service or its outputs without our written consent.
Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law or regulation.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

AI-Assisted Features

Elephant's Cookbook uses artificial intelligence to extract structured recipe data from images. By using these features you acknowledge that:

AI extraction is not perfect. Extracted recipes should always be reviewed for accuracy before use.
We make no warranty that the extracted content will be complete, accurate, or free from errors.
You are responsible for verifying any extracted recipe, particularly where it relates to dietary requirements, allergens, or cooking temperatures.

Intellectual Property

Elephant's Cookbook, its logo, software, design, and all related materials are owned by [Your Company Name Ltd] or our licensors. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use our trademarks, branding, or proprietary technology except as necessary to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.

Availability & Changes to the Service

We aim to keep the Service available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may temporarily suspend the Service for maintenance, updates, or reasons beyond our control.

We may update or modify the Service at any time, including changing or removing features. Where a change materially affects how your credits are used, we will give you reasonable notice.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, [Your Company Name Ltd] shall not be liable for:

Any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service.
Loss of data, including recipes or account content.
Losses arising from inaccurate AI extraction results.
Losses caused by events outside our reasonable control.

Our total aggregate liability to you shall not exceed the amount you have paid to us in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other matter that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a prominent notice in the app at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service and may request a refund of any unspent credits in accordance with section 3.

Termination

You may close your account at any time from within the app or by emailing us at [email protected].

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if required to do so by law, or if we choose to discontinue the Service. Where we terminate your account without cause, we will refund any unspent credits.

Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

General

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force.
Our failure to enforce any right under these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that right.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
These Terms are available in English only. The English version shall prevail in the event of any conflict.
